How I select the ads visible on this blog
When it comes to your passion published on the Web, there is a little bit of a battle going on between your inner Capitalist and your inner Altruist. One thinks that your work made available in the Word Library can actually help someone, teach somebody, and make the world a better place for everyone.
The other says that “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch” (TANSTAAFL) as once written by a science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein, and now commonly seen in books of an introductory economics.
Introduction
The Web was made to be free and will always remain free. Power of the web is the freedom of choice of its participants — both contributing and making use of its content.
Although I don’t consider my writing or ideas globally important, I think that every thought expressed in public was initially made public by the author to whom it was indeed important. Moreover, the importance and value of any matter is always subjective to the one who considers it, therefore such judgments are like the ideas themselves — important to those who make them.
Therefore:
- The ads on this site are placed in a way that won’t distract you from reading. I will never put an ad inside the content of an article to make you think that it is a part of an article.
- I use Google AdSense contextual ads, because sometimes they truly provide content that is related to the subject discussed in the article. You will never see the image ads provided by Google AdSense, because most of them are terribly designed and I have no control of what is being displayed.
- All the rest of the ads are from the commission junction network of advertisers. Every single ad has been selected by me, and is something that I would either buy or have a look at myself. I also select ads that look good and are well designed, therefore you will never see anything flashing or blinking and claiming that you are the 1,000,000 visitor of this site.
Regarding the ad visibly and ad blockers (like Adblock Plus):
- In general I am absolutely immune to the ads, even if they take 50% of the space on a webpage, and I know that you share the same vision being either a web designer, developer or an experienced web user. Ads are only available for you to show the support if you find my writing useful.
- I use Adblock Plus myself, and will disable it for any website that I like and want to support. Most of the people who use firefox and ad blocking browser extensions are the smartest web users who understand that good content takes time and resources, and will therefore find ways to support the author.
